I met Marc in Hanoi, Vietnam late on a cool Saturday evening. I was the leader of a Smith College trip to Indochina and very much in awe of Marc and Sabina. Sabina was giving a series of lectures to the group on Confucianism, Buddhism and traditional medicine, and Marc had come along to see Vietnam.
Marc put me at ease immediately, and in a very short time we became close friends. We spent many wonderful evenings (often until late) in Hanoi, Hue, Hội An and Saigon.
Marc’s self-effacing and quick wit charmed all who met him. I think that he acquired the nickname “007” for his ability to appear unexpectedly after having made a small detour to investigate something that had caught his ever roving, intuitive eye. A wonderful traveling companion, he remained in my heart long after our ways parted.
God will bless you Marc.

See photos of our trip. The photos are mostly by Marc, with a few of Marc taken by Chris.

Marc remains in my heart, and not a day goes past that he does not cross my mind. Quietly and without hubris he is undoubtedly on some heavenly detour over an ephemeral thought that only he could conceive.
