food-bank

Since 1982, the Food Bank has been distributing food to independent pantries, meal sites and shelters in Hampshire and surrounding counties. The Food bank is on the front lines of emergency food assistance.

The Food Bank has worked even harder since the outbreak of COVID. Without the Food Bank, the shutdown would have caused even worse economic hardship and hunger.  Supporting the Food Bank means supporting service organizations to help feed our neighbors in need.

The Food Bank delivers food both directly and through its partners to individuals and families, seniors and children. Local emergency food assistance depends on the Food Bank as a conduit. The Food Bank provides food from the Food Bank farm, other local farms, individual donations, community organizations, retail and wholesale food businesses, and funds from the state and federal government (The Emergency Food Assistance Program, TEFAP). To address the underlying causes of hunger, the Food Bank further helps member agencies to develop long-term projects.

The Food Bank also runs direct-to-client programs, the Mobile Food Bank and Brown Bag: Food for Elders.

For those outside of Western Mass, consider giving to your local food bank, or to Feeding America, a national network of more than 200 food banks.

Food Bank effectiveness:

For every $40 donated, the Food Bank can provide either

  • 160 healthy meals in Western Mass
  • more than a month of healthy dinners every day to a family of four
  • almost two months of three full meals every day to one person

Your gift in any amount will make a difference.
