Shortly before his death, Marc spoke about his concern for The Literacy Project. The Project’s Executive Director, Judith Roberts (Ada Comstock Scholar ’00), was a student of Marc’s at Smith. Based in Greenfield, the Project offers basic education programs and volunteer opportunities to adults throughout the Pioneer Valley.
The Literacy Project’s impact is twofold:
First, it helps adults build skills vital to work, home life, and greater participation in their communities.
Second, as these individuals participate more in economic, cultural and civic life, they help others. Thanks to the Literacy Project, participants who might otherwise be marginalized become key actors. They contribute distinctive skills and perspectives to support others through the Project and beyond. They also promote greater inclusion and empowerment for all of us.
