Shortly before his death, Marc spoke about his concern for The Literacy Project. The Project’s executive directly, Judith Roberts (’00), was a student of Marc’s when she was an Ada Comstock scholar at Smith. Based in Greenfield, the Project offers basic education programs and volunteer opportunities to adults throughout the Pioneer Valley.
The Literacy Project’s impact is twofold:
First, it helps adults build skills vital to work, home life and greater participation in their communities.
Second, as these individuals participate more in economic, cultural and civic life, they help others. Thanks to the Literacy Project, participants who might otherwise themselves be marginalized contribute distinctive skills and perspectives in supporting other through the Project and beyond. They also promote greater inclusion and empowerment for all of us.
